The Leon Millot are blooming!<br \/>\n<br clear=\"all\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pic\/20070612 - leon millot blooming.jpg\" alt=\"Leon Millot blooming on 6\/12\/07\" title=\"Leon Millot blooming on 6\/12\/07\" vspace=\"10\" \/><br \/>\n<br clear=\"all\" \/><br \/>\nI took these photos on 6\/12\/07, though I first noticed that the Leons were blooming on 6\/6\/07. The next photo shows the bad news: Hoplia Beetles love to eat flowers, including grape flowers.<br \/>\n<br clear=\"all\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pic\/20070612 - leon millot with hoplia beetle.jpg\" alt=\"Leon Millot beset by Hoplia Beetle\" title=\"Leon Millot beset by Hoplia Beetle\" vspace=\"10\" \/><br \/>\n<br clear=\"all\" \/><br \/>\nAt least I think they&#8217;re Hoplia Beetles. They fit the description in Jeff Cox&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1580171052?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=washinwinema-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=1580171052\">From Vines to Wines<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=washinwinema-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=1580171052\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/>, they&#8217;ve shown up at the right (from their point of view anyway) time, and they&#8217;re found mainly in the West.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been going out to the bonsai vineyard every day with a bucket of soapy water. By holding the bucket underneath the cluster they&#8217;re feeding on and giving it a tap, I drown the greedy little bugs. I&#8217;ll try to control them this way, but I&#8217;m looking into chemical controls in case it doesn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First the good news.
